ZAM 3D
  For Immediate Release

Electric Rain announces ZAM 3D
enabling 3D export to the XAML format for enhanced
interface design on Microsoft's Windows Presentation Foundation (formally Avalon).

First 3D software of its kind will provide developers and designers with a quick and easy solution for creating 3D interface elements for WinFX based applications.

Boulder, CO – April 11, 2005 – Today Electric Rain, Inc. ® announced the upcoming release of ZAM 3D™, a 3D modeling and animation product for developers leveraging Microsoft Corp.’s upcoming unified presentation subsystem for Windows, named "Windows Presentation Foundation” or WPF, to build new applications on Windows XP and the forthcoming version of the Windows Vista operating system, previously code-named “Longhorn.” ZAM 3D will increase developer and designer productivity when building and customizing 3D interface elements for WinFX based applications by automatically generating the XAML markup necessary to create a WPF 3D scene.

“We are excited to work with Microsoft to enable developers and designers to use ZAM 3D to build interface controls and components for their WinFX projects,” said Mike Soucie, President of Electric Rain, Inc. “ZAM 3D provides an approachable 3D authoring environment that enables people with little 3D design experience to rapidly develop models and animations, which can be instantly converted to XAML for integration into their WinFX applications.”

ZAM 3D is built around Electric Rain’s popular Swift 3D ® product line that has been satisfying Adobe ® Flash ® developers with a similar need for 3D design for over 5 years.

Key benefits of ZAM 3D:
  • Provides an easy to use 3D authoring environment
  • Offers both basic and advanced modeling and animation capabilities
  • Converts existing 2D artwork in the AI and EPS formats into 3D models
  • Imports pre-built 3DS and DXF models for quick conversion to XAML
  • Exports “ WPF ” compatible XAML mark-up files
  • Allows for easy integration of 3D content into “WinFX” based applications
"Microsoft’s WPF presentation framework introduces an exciting development platform for the design and creation of immersive user interfaces that will differentiate the next generation of applications and vastly improve user experiences," said Forest Key, group product manager on the WPF Team at Microsoft Corp. “We are excited to see Electric Rain supporting WPF and the XAML format with ZAM 3D, and see a great opportunity for application developers to utilize engaging 3D interface elements within their application design.”

ZAM 3D is expected to release in mid-September in conjunction with the Microsoft PDC 2005 event in Los Angeles, CA. The SRP of ZAM 3D has not yet been set. More information on ZAM 3D, as well as a public preview version that supports Microsoft’s latest May CTP build of “Avalon” is currently available for download at http://www.zam3d.com.
